Roots

I was born here in Scottsdale and I'll probably spend the rest of my days here. I spent years wandering and trying out other places before realizing there's no place like home: San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Germany, Spain, and Chile.

I love languages! I know German and Spanish – but I'm also fascinated by all types of languages and linguistics.

There was a day when I was quite an athlete. In addition to competing in triathlons, I used to waterski, snowski, play rugby, waterpolo, and lacrosse. Recently I started shooting because I tend not to get as winded. My most vigorous exercise now seems to come from trying to struggle into pants that seemed to fit just yesterday, but I aspire to get back in the saddle and complete an Ironman someday.

Troon Executive Suites

We have suites available! I'm currently renting out executive offices in far north Scottsdale between Troon North and the Four Seasons Resort. Please check out our website at http://www.troonexecutivesuites.com/. We spared no expense on building out spacious offices and the common areas are adorned with original artwork, a cascading waterfall in the foyer, and custom milled cabinetry. But the best part about the suites is Kathy, our office manager with 17 years experience managing executive offices and a smile that could melt glaciers.

Daddy

I'm the proud father of Steele, a 2 1/2 year old who lives in Chicago. It's hard to live so far away, but I head back there every month and soon I hope he'll be able to spend more time with me! I owe him big time. He turned my life around. The love he inspired in me taught me to love myself and now I love just about everyone!

Why CHATS?

I'm always baffled when someone says "You are a great public speaker already -- why would you attend Toastmasters?" To one friend I answered: "You already play basketball so well, why do you continue to play in a league?"

Like any sport or respectable hobby, there's a lot more to CHATS than learning a skill and moving on. In many ways it's a crucible to practice the most trying and difficult skills you need in life: interpersonal communication and group dynamics, quick analysis and effective communication, listening and hearing, preparation, organization, thinking on your feet, discipline, time management...

What I learn here helps me with my family and friends as well as clients and colleagues.

How would you describe your current skill level as a speaker?
I'm the acorn that becomes the oak! I thought I was a great speaker because I delivered a couple good ones at weddings. Boy, do I have a long way to go! CHATS is a very supportive group where I feel comfortable. I learn from everyone who speaks and there are some in CHATS who provide super feedback.

Do you have any specific fears relative to public speaking?
When I feel unprepared, I panic. So, if you'll excuse me, I've got to go prepare my next speech...
