Occupation and Employer:
Matchmaker, SPIES www.especiallyselective.com

Mentor:
Misty Vogtritter

Accomplishments and Interests:

I combined the best aspects of professional matchmaking services and executive recruiting to create SPIES (Single Professional Introductions for the Especially Selective). This has made us an industry leader with a 95% success rate in introductions resulting in second and third dates. Someone SPIES introduces gets married an average every six weeks since 1994 and they stay together (3.79% divorce rate). I want to share this expertise with as many as I can and help more people find love.

US Navy Veteran, Lieutenant and former Radioman Chief Petty Officer, 10 years active duty, nearly 7 active reserve

Hike up to six times a week, even in 115 degrees. Hike Grand Canyon Rim to Rim annually.

Personal and Carreer Goals:

I want to create a relationship curriculum that helps as many people as possible around the world find love and have it translated into at least 21 languages.

To take one exciting international trip a year. 2011 it was a 350 mile bike and barge trip through Holland. 2012: pub hopping and sightseeing in London, Edinburgh (Scotch), Dublin (Guinness & Jameson).

Seeking the love of my life, finally. Gotta stop the cobbler jokes.

What objectives do you hope to accomplish as a member of Chats Toastmasters?
What are the possibilities? I think step by step, to pursue the next improvement and reach a point where I nail what I want to convey as a speaker and help others who are starting out and even much better speakers. I'd love to provide meaningful contribution to Chats. I'm already developing wonderful friendships. :)

Oh, and if I happen to create this curriculum and present it to large audiences and create compelling info products and DVD's, that would be huge and meaningful.

Is public speaking a requirement of your job or profession?
No. However, communicating one-on-one with professional men and women is. I like how I communicate. It will be interesting to see how Toastmasters enhances or takes away the ease and enjoyment I now experience. I don't want a ten-step golf swing. I'm hoping I don't start to over-think how I speak in conversations.

I just gave my first Meet Your Business Match presentation to Phoenix Rotary 100's Rotary First breakfast in November 2011. I get asked to speak. I'll get asked more often if I develop more speaking topics and raise the bar on my speaking abilities.

How would you describe your current skill level as a speaker?
I've given around 40 speeches on networking, niche marketing, entrepreneurship, matchmaking, dating and relationships. I've been a guest on/interviewed in 200+ news interviews for television, radio, newspapers, magazines and online publications. I've improved since that first radio interview in 1994! My next radio interview is today! (12/13/11) I'd say I'm still a novice as a professional speaker, though, with much to learn.

Do you have any specific fears relative to public speaking?
Can I really memorize and give a speech like the accomplished speakers in this group and leave my crutches (notes) behind? How long does that take?

How do I gain control of my adrenaline when I get up in front of groups to speak?

Can I communicate in a speech like I do one-on-one? How do I transport that skill?

Why did you choose to join Chats Toastmasters?

I joined Chats Toastmasters after seeing the caliber of presenters and the evaluations provided to help each other reach their highest potential as speakers. I met Joel Weldon at NSA and was excited he was this Toastmasters' chapter mentor.

When I bombed in Table Topics and learned how hard it is to give a speech on something I know nothing about, I worried Toastmasters was not the path. But Misty Vogtritter, Jenny Locklin, Joel Weldon, Jay Rader and others not only encouraged me, they gave SPECIFIC ideas to improve. Jenny sent her Protabletoxifin humor competition speech and I started to see a glimmer of hope and a process I could build on that will help in speaking and other endeavors. This is my beginning.

What can Chats Toastmasters do to help you accomplish your goals?

Toastmasters will (voluntarily) force me to speak. That's a scary, but important commitment. I need to ensure I:

- start writing speeches well in advance,

- edit for time,

- hone content and practice, practice, practice delivery.

- Video tape my presentations to observe what I'm doing.

Doing this with multiple speeches and evaluations will help most. I know it's in my hands, but help is welcome!

I'm excited about the evaluators and fellow Toastmasters input. I can't do it all in a day, but I will get better. That's exciting.

I welcome ideas on how to determine and develop the best dating and relationship topics, whether they are for Toastmasters presentations or separate content.

:Tell the group anything else that you'd like us to know about you.
I appreciate you!
