_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Occupation and Employer UBS Financial Services, Phoenix Financial Planner Accomplishments and Interests: At the age of ten I watched Brian's Song, a movie of a NFL player who dies of a rare cancer at age 26. After watching that movie I knew that I wanted to be an oncology RN. I had the privilege to work at M.D. Anderson in Houston as a leukemia specialist for seven years before our family relocated to California. I am a huge football fan, as I was born in Pittsburgh and football is king there! I tried out for a pro tackle women's football team at age 49, but decided not to play as I look better with teeth in my head! Personal and Career Goals: To continue to help families, businesses and non profit organizations plan for their future. Our team prudently manages our client's wealth so that they can achieve their life goals. My personal goals include becoming an International Speaker (why not play big! ) in fifteen years or less. My husband and I love to travel and have been to forty plus countries and would like to live abroad one month a year. Name of Mentor: Brent McDonald Communication and Leadership Goals What objectives do you hope to accomplish as a member of Chats Toastmasters? I am eager to continue learning and practicing the functionary roles each week and speaking as often as I can. I learn so much from the other members in this club. I would like to be a dynamic story teller as listening to people's stories is a comfortable way to get to know someone and then you can help them get what they need. I would like to compete in a Toastmasters competition, but right now that seems like a light year away! Is public speaking a requirement of your job or profession? Somewhat as I used to do investing seminars but that is not so common anymore. Most of my job is listening and helping people figure out what they need and how we can help them get it such as a secure retirement! How would you describe your current skill level as a speaker? I do not feel like a beginner but I am intiminated and humbled by the fabulous talent at Chats and I try to be a sponge when I attend. I would like to be strategic about what I present and how to influence a group by the power of the spoken word. I have a long way to go ! Do you have any specific fears relative to public speaking? Not really because at least at Chats I feel safe. Outside of Chats I would be concerned about my timing, pauses and losing my place in the story. Why did you choose to join CHATS? Because several people have asked me over the years and I never took them up on their offer, but I do not think you can ever say no to Brent McDonald, peer pressure! What can CHATS Toastmasters do to help you accomplish your goals? I eventually want to learn more about how to write different types of speeches and to deliver them with enthusiasm. Tell the group anything else you'd like them to know about you. I was born in Pittsburgh and am a serious Steeler fan and I love football, from peewee to profession! At age 49 I tried out for a pro tackle women's football team in AZ and made the team as a strong safety! I declined the offer as in that crowd I was the smallest woman in the group. Yikes! My husband was not crazy about having a broken wife.
