Occupation and Employer:
Telecommunications Broker

Accomplishments and Interests:

All of my life I have loved being an artist and Interior Designer. I was in the Aviation business for nearly 30 years, deciding I wanted to fly in 1975. While a single mother of 3, having an Interior Design business, I moved my appointment book out to my instructor's desk at Bare field in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and got my pilots license in 90 days. One year later I started working for a gentleman who sold used Beechcraft King Airs after getting my multi engine and instrument rating.

I was very lucky to start flying King Airs with only 250 hours.

I was the first female to be Type Rated in the Lockheed Jet Star by Flight Safety International in 1984 and have a total of 5 Type Ratings. They are Citation, Lear Jet, Westwind, Lockheed Jet Star and King Air 300.

I also threw in my Real Estate License just in case I need to fall back on something else.

I am currently in a Global Telecommunications business and love to help people who already spend money on these services, save some money. This business is so much fun and I love it. I believe helping others to achieve their dreams and goals also helps me to achieve mine.

Personal and Career Goals:
My goals are to continue helping others achieve their goals, and my personal goals are being able to enjoy family and friends with the freedom that time and money gives us all.

Name of Sponsor/Mentor:
Debbie Waitkus

What objectives do you hope to accomplish as a member of Chats Toastmasters?

As a member of Chats I hope to become an effective speaker, and to be able to get in front of a group of people and not have my mind go blank.

I feel very inadequate in this sense and really want to overcome this feeling.

Is public speaking a requirement of your job or profession?

Public speaking is definitely a must in my field of business to become an effective leader. I have visions of myself on the Oprah show, so I must prepare don't you think?

How would you describe your current skill level as a speaker?

Currently getting in front of an audience is uncomfortable for me but sometimes I can fake it, so to speak.

Do you have any specific fears relative to public speaking?

Oh boy, just being in front of a group and knowing they expect something is so scary. I even forget jokes I have told for years. I do need to get over the fear of speaking and I am convinced Chats can help me do this.

Why did you choose to join Chats Toastmasters?
I wanted to explore a Toastmasters group to further my skills and went on-line to do this. Finding Chats and attending my first meeting, meeting the people involved convinced me to join. I actually knew 3 people that were members and felt this was going to be my new home.

What can Chats Toastmasters do to help you accomplish your goals?

Well, nothing is a guarantee, but I am trainable and coachable. Putting myself into the program I don't see how I could fail to accomplish my fear of public speaking.

What else do you want the group to know about you?

I know anything I have every wanted to do badly enough I have done. I do believe anyone can do anything if they have the burning desire to do so.

I love to play golf, I love the ocean and sunny beaches. I am most comfortable around beautiful surrondings and enjoy oil painting. I've always said "it's okay to be spoiled".

I'm very creative and love that in other people.
