Occupation and Employer:
Marketing Communications

Mentor/Sponsor:
Jenny Locklin

Accomplishments and Interests:
One of the things I am most proud of is being the three time chair of a charity golf tournament in San Diego that raised $300,000 for Scripps Cancer Center.  Volunteering is something I love to do - currently I am on committees for the Phoenix Children's Hospital and the St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance.  I am an 'experienced beginner' in golf and am looking forward to being able to play without having to pick up my ball because of too many shots!

Personal and Career Goals:
My career has been in corporate marketing and communications for large banks and mortgage companies.  It is now time to 're-career' and my aspiration is to take my skills into nonprofit management.  I moved to Arizona from San Diego last year and completed my nonprofit management certificate from the ASU Lodestar Nonprofit Management Institute.

Communication and Leadership Goals

What objectives do you hope to accomplish as a member of Chats Toastmasters?
My plan is obtain to the various service and development levels as I become more confident in public speaking.

Is public speaking a requirement of your job or profession?
In the past jobs when I called on to speak I would find some way to get out of it or I would do something very, very simple.  In the future, the type of position I am looking for will require public speaking on a regular basis.

How would you describe your current skill level as a speaker?
I am very inexperienced and very uncomfortable.

Do you have any specific fears relative to public speaking?
I was one of those people that would prefer to die than to speak in public.  I know that I won't die if I do speak, so now I want to overcome my main fears which are looking and sounding silly, forgetting what to say and turning red!

Why did you choose to join Chats Toastmasters?
I need to step out of my comfort zone and challenge myself in order to gain skills and confidence.
